Will Rogers State Park

This is the Ranch house that has 31 rooms, 11 bathrooms and seven fireplaces. It is the home where Will Rogers, his wife and three children lived. It is now a California State Park. It sits on 186 acres. They normally have tours of the mansion but it is closed right now for restoration work. The park is located off Sunset Boulevard about a mile before it runs into the Pacific Coast Highway.

This field next to the house was a very popular spot. By the time we left every little area of shade had been claimed and people had blankets out for a picnic.

This is what Will called the Barn.  Basically it was where they kept the horses and he always had close to thirty horses. I read that these grounds contain the only outdoor Polo field in Southern California. Does that mean there are indoor polo fields? I don't know. On weekends in the summer they typically have polo games going on.

This is a view from inside the barn looking out. They had horses for riding, polo and roping.

This is the view from inspiration point. There was still a little bit of fog in the air. You could see downtown LA, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and Hollywood. I just looked at how beautiful it was and just wondered how nice it must have been for the kids. They always had horses and wonderful trails to go riding and enjoy the magnificent views.
