Midland, Texas

This is one of the homes George W. Bush lived in while growing up in Midland Texas. It is in the process of being restored. I was surprised to see such a modest home. I didn't think a Bush ever lived in something this small.

Midland is in West Texas in what I would term as the middle of nowhere. More accurately it is in the middle of the Permian Basin, the Texas oil fields. It is a very pretty town.  Midland has had some pretty famous past residents including  President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, General Tommy Franks and actor Tommy Lee Jones to name a few.

Gentlemen, start your engines!

Midland was the home of the legendary Chaparral racing. Inside the Petroleum Museum they have a gallery on this famous racing legend. We only had about 45 minutes to explore this museum but could easily have spent 4 hours. It was a very well put together facility with displays inside and out.

In fact, Midland had many museums we would have liked to see but we just didn't have enough time. In the sister town of Odessa, about 15 miles away,  is a museum on American Airpower Heritage Museum that has the worlds largest display of WWII nose art I would love to have seen.
