Amish Country in  Ohio

  

click photo to enlarge		 Ohio has the largest population of Amish people in the world. These pictures are in Holmes county. This young draft horse was out roaming the field.

click photo to enlarge		 For the most part farms in Amish country tend to be very neat and tidy. We had not been there for at least 5 years and it has grown a fair amount in that time. There used to be  more wooded land. There seems to be a lot more plowed farms now.

click photo to enlarge		 This young boy was out plowing the fields with his team of draft horses. Lehman's Hardware is in Amish country and they cater to the local Amish with the largest selection of non electrical appliances that you'll find anywhere. Before Y2K they did a booming business with the non Amish people looking for non electrical appliances in case there was no power after Y2K.

click photo to enlarge		 These are phone booths. They are not allowed to have phones in their homes but they are allowed to use phones for their business. So, they will have these phone booths out on the street to conduct their business.

click photo to enlarge		 When you go to stores in the area they will always have hitching posts. This is at an auction house and they have a barn for the horses where they be out of the elements, cared for and eat until their owner is ready to go again.
