The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert has a "Butterflies Alive"
butterfly Garden exhibit through April 30 2006 that I wanted to see. I was watching these orange flowers
waiting for a butterfly to land on them and one finally did. Many butterflies
taste with their feet.

This guy is called a Cloudless Sulphur. His bright yellow really stands out
against the flowers. Some butterflies follow a very specific path each day.
They even stop at the same flowers in the same order. Hmmm I have known a
few people like that.

This one is called a Common Buckeye and he is only about 2 inches across
with his wings open. I hardly see anything common about his coloring. Some
male butterflies will just sit in a prominent spot watching for a
potential mate to fly by.

I wasn't disappointed at all the different varieties of butterflies. There
were many more camera nuts like me. Most with SLRs and big huge expensive lenses and a
lot of expensive equipment and me with my lowly Nikon 5700. I wonder what their
photos turned out like. Butterflies will often sit with their wings open
facing the sun to get as much warmth as they can. Just like this guy is
doing.

This was a cactus in the garden I couldn't resist. It's color was fabulous.
