My brother came to town to visit.... well more accurately stated to go watch a beach volleyball tournament. Heh, I wasn't about to spend 2 entire days at the beach watching volleyball, so the first day we dropped him off and then went to the San Pedro area about 30 minutes away. We had been wanting to see the S.S. Lane Victory ship anyway. Believe it or not but this baby still sails and you can take a cruise on it.

The Merchant Marines during war times are used to transport war materials and troops. For more information see this link as I don't want to misstate anything here. We ended up spending a few hours going through the ship. Below deck they have a large museum with a lot of information and history.

As you can see the ship is docked just about under the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro. Below are pictures of the radio room and one of the guns used to protect the ship during war times.
