We went to visit my daughter and her friend in Montgomery. I think this was my
first time in Alabama. This is the Carolyn Blount Theatre home of the Alabama
Shakespeare Festival where they took us to see a Mid Summer Nights Dream. The facility
is in a beautiful 250 acre park.

We ate lunch one day at a  little park along the Coosa River. They happened to
be having drag boat races on the river that day.

This is the Alabama State Capitol. The first thing to notice is the absence
of people and cars. This was a Sunday and everything in this area is shut
down. Coming from California this was a shock. No cars? The Capital
building is one of the few in the US that is designated a National
Historic Landmark. This building is where Jefferson Davis took the oath of
office for President of the Confederate States of America.

This is a view from another side of the Capitol. This is also where the
Selma to Montgomery civil rights march ended with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
delivering a speech from the bottom of the steps on the preceding picture.

The trip was very nice and we enjoyed some good Southern BBQ that we can't
seem to find in California. There is a lot of history in Montgomery. To get
around the town they had a bus that went to all the tourist stops, you could
get on and off as much as you wanted for only a buck. What a deal. This
picture is on a Monday. See, they do have cars. What a pleasure to drive and
visit without the throngs of cars and people.
