Winter Storm

On Friday night February 17th a winter storm hit our area. In this picture our wall and the cement around the pool are still wet from rain. But, the mountains are blanketed in a beautiful covering of snow. So, that means forget any plans, grab the camera and let's go! Some winters the mountain barely get any snow and this is one of them. But for it to happen on a weekend like this where I can go up and enjoy it, well, that is even more rare.

Here we are up in the mountains. We packed a lunch and off we went. We went on Glendora Ridge Road as there is always less people and today was no exception.

This was really the first time I had our Subaru in the snow. I was more impressed with this cars capabilities then any car I have ever owned. I wish I would have discovered Subaru when we lived in Cleveland. I could accelerate like the snow wasn't even there. In fact I couldn't get it to spin tires. Even when breaking on snow and ice. The anti lock brakes would kick in and allow me to stop and steer safely. This car is impressive.

Notice on the mountain slopes how the sun is already starting to melt the snow. The areas with more green showing are facing the sun. The temperature right here was 26 degrees and we are at about 5000 ft. elevation. But we could hear and see the snow sliding off the trees from the sun. I had a jacket on but never zipped it up as the sun was strong and hot. I like this, when I want snow I drive 20 minutes into the mountains, when I'm tired of it I drive home.

A favorite thing to do here in Southern California is to take your truck into the snow, shovel the bed full of show and take it back down the mountain. If they don't have a truck they pile snow on the hood and roof of their car and see how far down they can go before it all falls off. Me, Ha, I have shoveled enough snow in my life and I don't have any desire to shovel any more.
