Karen and I had been to the upper part of Yosemite back in 1999. I really didn't remember it. While she was in Ohio I took a trip up to the Sierras to play on the motorcycle. I started on the Eastern side going up Tioga Pass. The drive up the pass was very pretty and steep.

Before I came to the entrance station I came upon Ellery Lake at elevation 9538. As the picture shows there is snow and the date is August 1.

Once past the fee station you are driving on Tioga Road. This area is closed in the winter. The river is the Tuolumne. You cross over it a number of times. The drive takes you in and out of pine forests.

This is Tenaya Lake. Even though my motorcycle is 13 years old I will still see people looking at it. While I was walking around the lake to take pictures I would look over and see people studying the bike. At one stop there was an Asian Indian man looking at it when I walked up. He wanted to know how much something like that cost. He said they don't see motorbikes like that in India. Hmm I had to ask did he want to know how much it would be today or when it was new. He was rather surprised to learn it was a 1993.

At Olmsted Point I saw this group sitting looking out over Half Dome in the distance. After I snapped a few pictures I found myself doing the same thing. The Yosemite Valley was carved out by glaciers during the last ice age.
