Ohio actually has the largest number of Amish in the world. A favorite destination for us when we lived in Ohio on our motorcycles were the counties of Burton and Geauga which is one of the two larger areas where they live. |

This is the End of the Commons General Store in Mesopotami established in 1840. They sell many items in bulk to the local Amish community. |

There will be horse drawn wagons tied up to this hitching post during the week. On a Sunday all is pretty quiet. This area made for a great destination on the motorcycle. You just had to watch for road apples left by the horses as they could be slippery if they were fresh. |

This is a rather large one room school house. Just to the left a little bit an outhouse is showing, The Amish do not have indoor plumbing. Notice the single curtain in the window simply drawn to the side. |

This is the playground at the school house. Notice they still have teeter totters or see saws. Public schools got rid of them many years ago because kids would get hurt and then parents would sue. This isn't an issue for the Amish. Notice the small wooden backstop for the baseball field. It is small and close to the road. There is not a constant steam of cars to worry about a foul ball hitting a car. |
