Bagdad Mine

The Bagdad Mine is located in of all places Bagdad Arizona. Bagdad is a company
town owned by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. The company owns all housing. It
is one of two remaining company towns left in Arizona. There are about 1600
residents. I was unable to find the dimensions of this open pit mine but I
want to say it is at least a mile wide. On the little roads down in the mine
are huge Caterpillar trucks.

Here is Karen next to one of shovels. This is one of the smaller ones
according to the tour guide.

This is an area where they receive new equipment and recondition used
equipment. These truck beds are absolutely massive.

This is the indoor repair area. The company offers free tours of the mine.
In fact they gave a tour just for the two of us.

This old shovel is kept around for parts. It was really very interesting top
see a company owned town.
