This is our third time to Chincoteague Island Virginia over the years and our second time staying there. Chincoteague is known for its abundance of migratory birds and wild horses and one of our favorite things to do their is go crabbing. It is also the gateway to the Assateague Island National Seashore.

We stayed in a house that had two suites complete with kitchens and screened in porches to watch the sunsets and our own private pier. They also had crab traps and nets so basically all the things we needed to catch crabs. All we needed to do was go buy some string and chicken necks. You tie the chicken neck to a sting and throw it in the water. We only had 4 strings going and as fast as we could bring them up and net the crab the next sting was ready. They are a lot of fun to catch and darn good eating.

There is plenty of wildlife and we were there right after labor day and the island was fairly empty. Well, except for mosquitoes. If you go off hiking like we did to get to this light house you better have repellant on because they are viscous. This snowy egret has dinner in his mouth, if you look close you can see it.
