The first two pictures are in the Painted Desert which is part of the Petrified Forest National Park. It used to have National Monument status but doesn't seem to any more. These pictures were taken at the north end of the park.

The painted desert is about 160 miles long and starts about 25 miles north of Cameron AZ and sweeps in an arc southeast to just above the Petrified Forest National Park. It ranges in width from 10 to 30 miles.

This is the famous Jack Rabbit Trading Post on Historic US Route 66. We have driven past this on Interstate 40 many times but never stopped. Well... I can certainly attest to the fact that it is well worth the stop. The trading post has many Route 66 souvenirs and at very reasonable prices.

These evening shots are taken at the Little Painted Desert County park just north of Winslow Arizona. We went to watch the sun set and take some photographs.

For this pictures I used the headlights of the Subaru to illuminate the landscape. Kind of a neat effect.
