Capitol Reef

Capitol Reef National Park is a 100 mile long water pocket fold. We stopped here for a couple of hours on our way to Moab. |

This anomaly in the earths crust was formed between 50 and 70 million years ago. The entire day it threatened rain and we heard thunder but we never really got any serious rain. A few drops fell here and there but we never even had to put the top up. |

The park is named because of the resemblance of the many whitish sandstone domes to the US Capitol building; the 'Reef' refers to the high uplifted ridge running north-south along the fold. |

As you can see in this picture the views all around were pretty special. This shows the view in the rear view mirror along with the view ahead. A convertible is the only way to drive through this colorful area of Utah. |
