Washington DC

I had a training class in Washington DC and was there for a week. Karen would go out visiting the museums and other sites while I was in class so most of my pictures are again at night. This picture is taken from the WWII memorial and the Lincoln Memorial is in the background. I was over near the capitol building to take night shots but the police made me take down my tripod. Apparently you need to get  a tripod permit. I was also told by another guy taking pictures that they had harassed him over by the Lincoln Memorial.

This one is taken from the far end of the reflecting pond using a long zoom lens. Washington is a great place to visit with plenty of very good museums and many historic sites to see.

I had one afternoon off and we went to the tomb of the unknowns.  The Tomb is guarded 24-hours-per-day and 365-days-per year by specially trained members of the 3rd United States Infantry (The Old Guard). Watching the changing of the guards is a very moving experience. The bottom picture is taken in Denton Maryland. We went there to visit a friend and her family I worked with almost 20 years ago. We had a fun evening visiting with them. After living in California it was refreshing to visit small town America. They had a great place with 5 acres of land, woods, a stream and a tree house her husband helped the boys build. All the elements of a great place to grow up as a kid.
