Ballenberg is an open air museum that portrays Switzerland as it used to be. It has more then 100 buildings that are more then 100 years old brought here from all over the country.  The home to the left represents a farm house from what they call the midlands area of the country.

This farmhouse from Madiswil is an all-wood post-and-beam construction. This farmhouse from the beginning of the 18th century was planned and built for two families. The house originally had a straw roof but that was replaced with shingles in the 19th century. When it was reconstructed it took 257,000 shingles for the roof.

Notice the lower pert of this home. It is made to bring the farm animals in out of the elements. It is from a higher area that gets more snow. The open air museum was a great place to visit to get an idea of the different types of architecture in Switzerland. As the pictures show it really quite stunning in its settings also.
