From the Heritage Square Museum Web site "A living history museum reflecting the settlement and development of Southern California from the Civil War to the early 20th Century, Heritage Square Museum offers visitors a look into the everyday lives of Southern Californians at the close of the 19th Century."  The museum offers tours throughout the day so check their web site before going. We almost missed the last tour of the day.

Many of the homes during the late 19th century and early 20th century were ordered from catalogs and some of the homes here are examples of that. The house in the lower left is the Valley Knudsen residence. The 2 pictures in the lower right are of the James and Bessie Hale House built in 1887. The paint was selected from paint ships found when restoring the house. The gingerbread on the home is outstanding and I have never seen a chimney as ornate as this one. The interiors have also been restored.
