Since we work at the Route 66 Mother Road Museum in Barstow and we had not driven the road in  a few years we thought it was time to see what was going on. The Bagdad Cafe is still going strong and open 7 days a week. The movie Bagdad Cafe is what made this place famous. It is not actually in Bagdad but in Newberry Springs which is 50 miles west of the old railroad siding of Bagdad. This cafe was originally named the Sidewinder Cafe.

We saw a lot of places like this along the Mother Road where they have now been fenced off and they seem to be starting to do something with it. There was fresh gravel that looked neat and the property was somewhat cleaned up. Maybe they will be making some kind of tourist top out of it.

Cool Springs has been a work in progress for a number of years and is now open as a gift shop. The very light colored stone is the original stone work. This was the first time we have been there and were able to go in. The pictures at the bottom are Cadiz Summit. See this picture during it's heyday. Like many places along route 66 when the highways opened businesses ceased to exist.
