Mt. Baldy

Usually when volunteering at the Mt. Baldy Visitors center we work in the visitors center disseminating hiking information. But this day the Forest was closed due to the wild fires. The young student behind the desk said you are welcome to stay if you want but it will probably be pretty slow.

So I went out and found one of the other rangers to see what she was doing and she was happy to have me ride around with her on patrol. They had people stationed at various trailheads telling people who could not read the Forest was closed. In the top picture I enlarged the big sign that says stop, no entry. Yet there are cars parked where people walked around the sign and went hiking. One of the young Rangers went off and rounded the hikers up.

This rattle snake was hanging out down at the firehouse so again one of the young student rangers rounded him up and let him go a fair distance away. Look how it blends in with the grass. Very difficult to see. It was amazing how many people we had to tell the Forest was closed because they didn't see all the HUGE signs everywhere including the flashing electronic sign as you drove up the hill. If they found a spot that didn't have a sign they would stop. Then say there wasn't a sign here. We thought this little spot was OK. Sheeze... It was nice to be out on patrol for a change.
