The last time I was at Bolsa Chica was in 2007. It is a great place to
practice taking pictures of birds in flight. On this day there were a lot of
Snowy Egret's and some Pelicans but I didn't see any Blue Herons. |

Panning along with a bird in flight and getting them in the picture and
sharp is something that takes a bit of practice so I like to get out and try
it on occasion. Similar to shooting race cars but in this case you are using
a fast shutter speed to freeze movement. I loved watching the Pelicans how
they just glide inches above the water. |

The Snowy Egrets just look so odd how they curl their neck up for flight
and then those orange colored feet. There is an area with a walking bridge
over the water and it was just lined with photographers. You should hear
the cameras go crazy when the ducks would take off like the picture below
left. Digital cameras make it so easy to shoot hundreds of pictures and
just delete the bad ones. With film you would go broke getting them all
developed only to throw many of them away. |
