Cleator Arizona is a Ghost Town at the base of the Bradshaw mountains about
equidistant between Phoenix and Prescott. From Highway 17 you take dirt roads
about 8 miles to the Ghost Town of Bumble Bee, then another 8 miles or so to Cleator. We had intended to go al the way to the old mining town of Crown King
but like many trips we spend too much time fooling around and never make
it<grin>. |

As we were coming into town we came across some abandoned trailers and this
interesting looking police car. I had to go into the bar and ask about the
car. Seems somebody had filmed a grade Z horror flick in town and this car
was part of it. The woman behind the bar said she was holing the car hostage
until they paid their bill. |

Cleator was originally named Turkey Siding and like most ghost towns it
was established when gold was discovered, in this case in 1864. The
buildings at the bottom of this page are in Bumble Bee named for nearby
Bumble Bee Creek. It was established in 1863 as a stagecoach stop. In the
1930's someone tried to make it a tourist attraction and that is when the
abandoned buildings were likely built. |
