The last time we were at Goffs Schoolhouse was 2003 and since they had just recently dedicated the new the Dennis G. Casebier Library it was time for another visit. The town of Goffs is at the top of the hill going west out of Needles Arizona. Because of it's location the Santa Fe Railroad put enough of it's employees there with their children that a school house was built. It was built in 1914 and was used as a school house until 1937. |

The grounds are a wonderful museum to the Eastern Mojave desert and have many old antiques including buildings. This building was for the Justice of the Peace for Amboy Township. There area also a number if mining exhibits. |

The new library was dedicated on October 11, 2008. It is built as a replica of the Goffs Santa Fe Depot that was operational from 1902 to 1956. The photo directly below is of the reconstruction of the Stotts Mill. The loading ramp was made to simulate the side of the mountain. There is a lot more work to be done but is an example of the fine displays on the grounds. To visit Goffs see the web site for the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association and be sure to check and see that that will be open. |
