This is the outside of the Kellogg Mansion on the grounds of Cal Poly Pomona.
The facility can be rented and one of it's biggest uses is for weddings.
Kellogg was thought to be "dimwitted" as a youngster because of his trouble
reading. It turned out in his later years he was just near sighted. This
upbringing helped shape Kellogg. Believing that our children are the key to
lasting change, Mr. Kellogg established the W.K. Kellogg Child Welfare Fund in
1930. |

Myron Hunt, a southern California architect who had designed the Rose Bowl
was commissioned to design the mansion. To build the house 377 acres were
purchased and the house was built for a cost of $150,000 around 1925. The
house was to be his winter home. |

Also on Cal Poly Pomona grounds are the Kellogg Arabian Horse Center.
Horse shows are held the first Sunday of every month during the school
year. We went to visit the mansion and eat lunch at the Kellogg West
Conference center. A great place on the hilltop overlooking the valley and
the San Gabriel mountains in the backdrop. |
