Oklahoma has been my favorite state for Route 66. But I also have not traveled
any further east then Oklahoma. This abandoned drive in theater is off an old
alignment of 66 and does not show up in a lot of guide books. It is just west
of Tulsa. Route 66 got moved in a lot of places many times over the years so
there are many old alignments. |

The twin bridges are just east of Tulsa. This bridge below is over the
Canadian River and is called the "Pony Bridge" because it is made up of 38
Pony Trusses. A pony truss is a truss bridge which allows traffic through
the truss, but the top of the bridge is not joined together with cross
braces. |

Below left is Pops in Arcadia OK. It is a gas station, restaurant and gift
shop. They have over 500 flavors of soda. They have 60 varieties of root
beer alone. Hydro was home to Lucille Hammons, a Route 66 icon dubbed "The
Mother of the Mother Road." Her motel and gas station still stand on Old
Route 66 just west of Hydro. |
