Driving to Prague the small villages and countryside remind you this was a Soviet Bloc Country. Our hotel was in an area called Old Town. You wouldn't know it from my photographs but the place was very busy with tourists. This street is one street off the main tourist area and it is rather empty. We had just finished eating at an Italian restaurant where the food was very good.

This picture is on Old Town Square. The area was built in the 12th century. The church in the photo is The Church of Our Lady Before Tyn. The church was founded in 1385 during a tumultuous period when ‘heretic’ Hussites were being slaughtered by the ruling Roman Catholics. While others were still sleeping I went out and took pictures that's why the square is empty. The famous astronomical clock is on the square.

The Charles Bridge links Old Town with Mala Strana and Prague Castle. The bridge is teaming with people day and night. There are now 75 statues on Charles Bridge, but most are copies, as floods and catastrophes over the centuries damaged the originals. The night photo is of the Prague Castle. Prague Castle is the largest medieval castle complex in Europe and the ancient seat of Czech kings. We had taken a bus tour that dropped us off at the Castle but we only had 40 minutes and the line to get in the cathedral was longer then that. The castle was constructed in the 9th century.
