Stanton Arizona is a ghost town outside of Wickenburg. It is not real big and
today it is now an RV park. But you can still go in and wander around. Stanton
experienced gold rush fever in 1863 in the form of a gold strike. What was
once a stage stop transformed over night into a western boomtown thanks to its
rather large deposits of gold. |

In 1871 Charles P. Stanton entered the town and took over. He
changed the name to his own and became the postmaster, deputy and
justice of the peace. Stanton was shot to death in 1886 in his own store.
The man who shot him claimed Stanton had insulted his sister. |

I have read that you can get people who run the RV park to show you around
but the day we were there it was 105 degrees so there was not a whole lot
of movement going on anywhere. The buildings are really in good shape for
their age. |
