Texas has many service stations in ruins and also restored. The one to the left is in McLean Texas. Back in the early days of Route 66 many service stations were required because cars were not as reliable as the are today. When the highways bypassed towns the old service stations closed up.

This Art Deco building in Shamrock was opened in 1936 and contained the Tower Station, U Drop Inn Restaurant and a local retail store. It has been fully restored and today houses the Chamber of Commerce and a  Tourism Office.

Left is a restored service station in Alanreed Texas. Below left is Bug Ranch, a spoof on Cadillac Ranch. We drove right past it and didn't even see it. Turns out I did last year also. We were determined to find it though so stopped and asked at a service station. The one below right is in Glenrio on the border of Texas and New Mexico. Glenrio has quite a collection of old businesses including service stations, motels, stores etc. all abandoned.
