Some of the towns around us offer walking tours and when we get around to it we
like to take them. Many of the towns here in SCAL were started by the
railroads. They would build stations every 10 miles or so to support the steam
locomotives, their need for water and repair. They would also build hotels
then advertise back east about the beautiful towns to try to get people to
move out. San Dimas is one of those towns. San Dimas was created in 1887. |

There is also a great history in the citrus business. The area used to be
the citrus capitol of the world. In many of the cities you can still find
old packing houses. San Dimas tries very hard to retain it's western
heritage. |

The wonderful house to the left is the Walker House and currently house a
Historical Museum in part of the house and a restaurant in another part.
The Martin House is directly below. Unfortunately for us our tour was
canceled because they were just opening the new museum and did not have
enough volunteers to conduct the walking tour. We did walk the town and
there were plaques telling you about various buildings. |
