Griffith Park Observatory

We moved to California in 2001 and in 2002 the Observatory closed for renovation. It opened again in November of 2007. Crowds were huge and you had to get tickets in advance for specific times. Well, it still gets crowded but all you need do is arrive about 30 minutes before the building opens. You will be able to get a parking spot and enjoy the grounds. Unfortunately it was an awful day for pictures with the fog.

The grounds are beautiful with views over Los Angeles. I didn't post any pictures thinking I would go back on a nice day but the reality is it could be a long time before I get around to going back. Here you can see some of the hiking trains and the Hollywood sign in the background.

Inside and outside the Observatory is really great. They did a good job on renovation. Admission is free although there is a charge for some of the shows in the planetarium.
