Miatafest 2010 was a 20 year celebration of the Miata put on by Mazda and the local Miata club SOCALM. It was held at the Mazda R&D facilities in Irvine. The clay model in the picture at left is one of the final models of the style Miata we own. There were tours of the R&D facility, vendor displays and a car show.

Mazda had a number of prototype and special production models on display. Many people legendary to the development of the Miata, Tom Matano, Bob Hall, Mark Jordan and Norman Garrett were all there. They talked about how they came about creating the Miata. The Miata  was a radical car at the time: a back-to-basics roadster that aimed to be sexy, fun to drive and affordable. A throw back to the old British roadsters but made in Japan. There were about 300 cars on display for the car show. Plus the prototypes Mazda put on display.

The black car to the left belongs to friends of our and they have put a lot of work, money and love into this Miata. It is just so dang hard to photograph a shiny black care in the middle of the day.
