Painted Desert

The Painted Desert is in the northern part of the Petrified National Forest.
It also stretches west to the Grand Canyon. It was July and it was hot and the
Arizona monsoons were brewing. We hung around for a couple hours waiting for
the rains to come to where we were. I was hoping to get some lightening photos
but it never happened. In the picture to the left the reds are kind of
subdued. |

As more and more clouds moved in the the sun was no longer so bright and
harsh the red colors starting showing up more dramatically. There was an
artist painting the landscape. We were sitting at the Painted Desert Inn
under a roof and I had my camera on a tripod waiting for lightening. |

After we left we passed this windmill with the storms off in the distance.
I drove a few miles with this picture haunting me. I finally had to turn
around and go shoot this scene.. |
