Point Lobos State Reserve is located 3 miles south of Carmel. A person could easily spend a day here hiking the trails and enjoying the views. We were here midweek and it was not very crowded but I suspect it gets crowded on weekends.

The trails lead to headlands, coves and meadows. Around every corner is a photograph to take or a view to paint. You can see and hear the sea lions and seals and we were told it is a great place to watch the whales during migration. If you are in the Monterey / Carmel area Point Lobos is a must stop.

The day we were there was just spectacular with temperatures in the upper 70s and a light sea breeze. According to the Point Lobos web site you only see half of the reserve unless you are a diver and visit the underwater world just offshore. This is one of the richest marine habitats in California. Its animals and plants are fully protected by state law from any disturbance.
