Las Vegas Motor Speedway

While in Las Vegas we took a tour of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex.
They have 10 different tracks there for different kinds of racing. The driver
takes you out on the super speedway in a van. It is amazing just how steep the
banks of the Speedway are. She stopped the van on the bank of one of the
corners. It was a very odd feeling because you felt like the van was going to
tip over. |

We got to go in one of the lodges. What a beautiful view. Nellis Air Force
base is between the speedway and the mountains. We watched the Thunderbirds
taking off in formation. The prices we were quoted for camping in a motor
home were amazingly cheap and included tickets to the races. The Richard
Petty Driving experience was going on so we watched that for a little while. |

The Drag Strip has some of the fastest times in the country we were told
because of the surface treatment they put down. It gives the racers
incredible traction. It is also one of the longest tracks in the country
so the cars have a long way to slow down. If you are ever in the area the
tour of the race complex is highly recommended. |
