Hmmm The Galloping Goose. We go to visit Prescott at least once a year and I
am not sure there have been any visits where we did not go to the Goose to
look at jewelry. It is possible we have but...I'm not sure. Karen had slowed down a bit
because she has so much jewelry from here. For a while it was a store
further down that sells diacrylic glass where she had been buying jewelry. But
this trip she bought from the Galloping Goose. |

The picture to the left is the infamous Whiskey Row in Prescott. It was
called Whiskey Row for all the saloons that were here during Prescott's early
history. Much of it burned down in July of 1900 but one of the true stories
is during the fire the cowboys drinking in the Palace Saloon dragged the bar
out to the square in order to save it and keep on drinking watching the
fire. The statue in the picture below is of Bucky O'Neil and is a
tribute to Bucky and the other Arizona Rough Riders |

One of the landmarks in Prescott is Thumb Butte. The grave below is Big
Nose Kate whose real name is Mary Katherine Horony Cummings who was the
common law wife of Doc Holliday. I found it kind of interesting that there
is now a Wal*Mart next to her resting place. There is a plastic container
on her grave site that contains a notebook where people from all over the
world have left notes to Kate. The name Big Nose came not from the size of
her nose but rather because her propensity to stick her now in everybody's
business. |
