Tombstone bills itself as the town too tough to die. It is a fascinating look
back into American history. When visiting Tombstone you realize there really
was a wild west, it wasn't just in Hollywood movies. The town does a good job
of preserving history and they closed off Allen street to vehicle traffic.
Only stagecoaches now. There is the Tombstone Epitaph, the second oldest
continuously published paper in AZ, or Big Nose Kate's saloon. |

The Tombstone Courthouse is on the corner of Toughnut and Third st. Many a
famous outlaw was tried here. It is now a state historic park and museum
filled with artifacts and photographs of the 1880s. The town gallows is on
display in the courtyard. Allen Street is the main drag in Tombstone. It has
the old wooden sidewalks, places to tie up your horses and is also where the
famous OK Corral is. |

There are many cowboys walking around in period dress. Often they are at
the corners trying to get the tourists to come see their gunfight show.
One of the more famous ones is of course at the site of the OK Corral where
they reenact the famous 30s second gunfight at the OK Corral. They do a
real nice job giving you the history and set up of the events that took
place. The picture below of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday walking to the
shootout. |
