Coffinwood

What is Coffinwood?.... Well, we love to go seeing the more unusual offbeat attractions. From places like the Official Center of the World in Felicity CA, to Salvation Mountain in Niland CA. to the Highway 62 Art Tours in the Morongo Basin. The reason is this.. we love to see and admire when people are passionate about their artwork and what they do. It is people doing what they love to do. Coffinwood fits this to a tee and you can visit their website Coffinitup. Our friends Craig and Sandra are often with us when we go to see / visit some of these wonders of the world. There is something special about people who are doing what they love in and through artwork. It is even better when they are able to make a living doing so.

We were traveling through Pahrump Nevada and I had reached out to Dusty to find out about visiting them but they were not available the day we were there.  sigh.. next time.. Anyway,  Coffinwood is a place for both Dusty and Bryan to display, build and play out their life doing things they love. Bryan is an artist and builder. He has on this property a Church of the Coffin, a Coffinwood Graveyard, a Coffin shaped Gazebo where they have performed wedding ceremonies. As you look around the property there are all kinds of Coffin shaped things. Oh, the difference between a Coffin and a casket is a casket is a 4 sided box mass produced. A coffin is a 6 sided individually produced piece of art.

Dusty does gardening in Coffin shaped raised beds. In the spring her flowers come up and they are all black flowers. She also grows vegetables for consumption since she is a vegetarian. Click this link for a great youtube video of them. I wish I had better quality pictures to do the place justice but from behind a fence these were the best I could do. Dusty also collects hearses and as of the writing of this page they have 11. I am going to have to go back for a better look because this place is just too cool. <grin>
