Forest Lawn opened in 1906. In 1917 management of the cemetery was taken over by Dr. Hubert Eaton. Eaton believed in joyous life after death and also felt that cemeteries should not be filled with big unsightly head stones but with memorial architecture, big lawns, fountains and statuary.

There are religious works of art, historic works of art and patriotic works of art. At the Glendale location the BIG attraction is the largest permanently mounted religious painting in the world of The Crucifixion. It is 196 feet long and 45 feet high. They have a multimedia presentation giving the history of it every hour on the hour before unveiling it. It is really very well done.
