Hollywood Forever Cemetery

I was just here back on 2012 but as often happens, Karen was back in Cleveland at the time. It turned out to be one of those places I enjoyed and wanted to share what I learned about it with her.. sooo here we go again. Craig and Sandra also went with us as they had never been here and were quite exited to go.  It was originally called Hollywood Memorial park and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angles. It was started in 1899 on 100 acres. It now has only 60 acres as 40 were sold off to Paramount Studios. Part of the land was set off for a dedicated Jewish Burial grounds called Beth Olam Cemetery where people from Hollywood's Jewish community are buried.

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the Rolls Royce hood ornament with the dome in the background. Jules Roth bought the cemetery in 1939. Jules was a convicted felon and used a lot of the money from the cemetery's operations to pay for his own luxuries and let the cemetery fall into a state of disrepair. The grounds really are very pretty and unique.

There are many Hollywood stars buried here and I had a map of the locations printed and we search for John Houston and it probably took 15 minutes to find because we were expecting something a lot bigger. Some of the more famous people here are: Douglas Fairbanks, Don Adams, Mel Blanc, Charles Chaplin Jr, Lana Clarkson, Cecil B. DeMille, Peter Finch, Griffith J. Griffith, Darren McGavin, Johnny Ramone, Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer.
