The Los Angeles zoo covers 133 acres. The Zoo, the land and the animals are
owned by the City of Los Angeles. The zoo was started in 1966. The first zoo
in the city was the Griffith Park Zoo located about 2 miles from the current
one. We got there at just the right time, about 20 minutes before it opened. We
were one of the first ones in line. By the time they let us in there was a few
hundred behind us. |

For the first few hours the zoo was nice as it was not very crowded. By the
time we left is was a real zoo<grin>. I have been to zoos that are better
for photographing the animals because this one has fences around almost all
of them making it very difficult to get good pictures. But ya takes what ya
gets and make the best of it. |

I happened to be there the Saturday after Thanksgiving and am thinking
because of the holiday that is why it was crowded. By noon it was
really packed as we decided to leave rather then fight the crowd. But it
was nice to see my family in the pictures to the left. |
