During the winter there are a number of large car shows that happen out in the
desert area near Palm Springs. This was one of those large car shows and it
was held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden which has a stadium that seats
16,000 people. It resides in one of the richest cities in the country, Indian
Wells. It has been home to the fifth-largest professional tennis tournament in
the world since 2000. I wanted to go to see this tennis spectacle in the
desert as much as the car show. Walking through the parking lot to the show we
saw many many license plates from Canada and places in the US that have cold
snowy winters. It was pretty obvious there are a lot of snow birds in the
Coachella Valley area. |

One of the nice things about it is the fact the cars are all on nicely
manicured grass so easier on your feet for walking instead of hot pavement.
They limit it to 1,000 off trailer only cars, trucks and motorcycles. To the
left is Steve Hurley of Cherry Valley. If he saw you pointing the camera he
would strike a Flash Gordon pose in front of his Piaggio MP3 scooter. This
event is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Sebastian George, who was a
nationally known oncologist and co-founder of the Desert Cancer Foundation.
Dr. George was killed in a traffic accident in 2002. |

This was one of the largest if not the largest car show I have ever been to
and the number of vendors selling food and car related products had to be
about 100. Our friends Craig and Sandra went along with us for the spectacle
not having any idea what we were dragging them to now. I think they were
both amazed as were Karen and I just how large this was. I was a bit
disappointed because I was looking for a GTO Judge and this show did not
have a single one. The Judge was a new 1969 model GTO. The name came from a
comedy routine, "Here Come de Judge", used repeatedly on the Rowan &
Martin's Laugh-In TV show. |
