While we were in Prescott Valley this September the city hosted the Healing
Field for the 3rd year in a row. The Healing Field is to honor and remember
the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on US soil. They also had flags in
memory of the firefighters who lost their lives in the Yarnell Hill fire in
2013. We
happened to get to see and experience the opening ceremony and we also went
back to see the field lit up at night. |

There were 3,000 flags on display and 343 pairs of firefighter boots at the
base of a flag representing a firefighter that died that day. Each flag has
a short bio of someone lost on 9/11. The field of flags, the bios on the
flags, the boots and the ceremony served as a moving reminder of what
happened that day in 2001. |

Then after the Healing Field ceremony, in the nearby arena, they had a
walk by firefighters who would climb the steps of the arena in full gear
representing the stairs firefighters had to climb at the disaster. There was
also a display of items from the 9/11 disaster. A Chaplin Firefighter
who was at 9/11 was there showing slides and talking about what happened. |
