On the way to Sitka the cruise ship went past the Hubbard glacier, shown to
the left. It was amazing how cold it gets when you get near these glaciers and
I bet the water is cold too.... |

The first port we stop at was Sitka. While in Sitka we went to see the
Alaska Raptor Center. Then we were on to the Sitka National Historic Park
with its carved totem poles. After that we went downtown to wander around
and eat lunch. While walking around in Sitka we would see bald eagles flying
overhead. We discovered that this was one of the most commonly seen birds in
Sitka and they were everywhere. |

One of the posted photos shows a flock of birds circling around and
these are all eagles. They were out on a fishing expedition. Every so often
one would swoop down and pluck out a salmon. We sat on a park bench watching
this for about a half hour. They had to be at last ½ mile away but they are
so large we could see it. |
