When we lived in Cleveland Ohio in the 90s we flew out to Las Vegas. One day
we went to the Hoover Dam and through Boulder City. At that time I saw the old
historic Boulder Dam Hotel and said I wanted to stay there one of these days.
Well in 2015 probably 20 years later we finally did. We loved the Hotel and
the City and now want to go back. Two nights was not enough to explore
the area. Boulder City is one of only two cities in Nevada that outlaw
gambling. The population in the 2010 census was 15,000. The city has a very
nice historic area with a lot of antique shops and restaurants. |

Boulder City was originally built in 1931 by the Bureau of Reclamation and
Six Companies, Inc. as housing for workers who were building the Hoover Dam.
From Wikipedia " Boulder City was carefully planned through federal
supervision as a model community, with Dutch-born urban architect Saco Rienk
de Boer contracted to plan it. DeBoer had been a planner for Denver,
Colorado, and was to design many towns and suburbs around the Rocky Mountain
region. Because the Hoover Dam project itself represented a focus for
optimism for a country suffering from the effects of the Great Depression,
the town itself was to be an additional manifestation of this optimism." |

Boulder City also gets ranked pretty highly as a place to retire due to
affordable housing, medical care, tax rates and arts and leisure. We do tend
to like to visit places that get ranked a great place to retire as that
retirement day for me is coming up fast. While we like CA I can see the day
when we want to move to a city that just has less people and is a slower
pace of life. We also decided we want to go spend more time in Boulder City
and probably will go again after I retire. We really enjoyed the hotel and
going out walking around at night. We ate at some pretty good restaurants
too. |
