While in Cleveland we kept hearing about the GE Chandelier hanging over Euclid Ave in the Playhouse Square district and also the restored Euclid Beach Carousel at the Western Reserve Historical Society Museum. The Playhouse Square District is the second largest performing arts complex in the US and houses 5 restored historic theaters: State, Ohio, Allen, Hanna, and Palace. In the spring of 2014, a $16 million outdoor streetscape transformation was completed. Focusing primarily on lighting and signage, a centerpiece is a 4,600-piece LED crystal chandelier that hangs over the Euclid Ave and East 14th Street intersection 24-feet off the ground. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the largest outdoor chandelier in the world. And it is built to survive the wild swings of the Cleveland weather.

The restored carousel at the WRHS is incredibly beautiful and they give you 2 tokens to ride it with your admission. I remember this at Euclid Beach from my youth. Euclid Beach closed when I was 14 and it was the closest amusement park to where we lived. We got to go there once a year when the local newspaper, The News Herald, would sponsor a nickel day where all rides were a $0.05. One of my favorite rides there was the Flying Turns because my older brother David, who was always better then me at everything, was afraid to ride it. So I had to love it right.. <grin>

OMG Chief Wahoo is also at the museum glowing in his full neon grin. This sign hung above the entrance at the old Cleveland Stadium and sure brings back childhood memories. The 4th street street area has the original Arcade and many other places of interest. When we were there they were in the midst of tearing up Public Square in order make the square more pedestrian friendly. Next time I go back I am hoping this means I will be able to get a nice photograph of the Old Stone Church where we got married.
