Working at the Route 66 Museum in Barstow we are just minutes away from Rainbow Basin. This is where we spent Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Somehow I don’t think there were any stores and lines and deals nearby to be had except nature. At least on this planet because it sure felt like we had left earth. This is the Rainbow Basin Natural Area north of Barstow CA. managed by the BLM. Yeah as always I am a few months behind posting pictures. <grin> |

It was a stunningly beautiful day in the desert with a blindly blue sky and just fabulous colors and shapes in the rocks. The temperature was about 72 and no wind. The geology was incredible. Looking at all the layers of rock and the uplifts caused by earthquake faults and volcanic activity. There are also many fossil beds in the area but that is left for another day. We took a picnic lunch along and spent the day just looking in amazement. At least now when People ask us about it we have been there and can tell them. |
