Bedrock City, Arizona

In Valle Arizona on the way to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, at the intersection of routes 180 and 64, is a campground and replica of Bedrock city from the 1960s animated prime time TV show called the Flintstones.  It was opened in 1972 after the owners success with a similar venture near Mt. Rushmore. Since the TV show came out when I was 5 years old of course I watched it and loved it. We had been past this a couple times but did not realize they had all the houses and buildings back there. Once I learned that I had to go before it is gone.

It is getting a bit tired and Millennials have no idea what the place is so it may very well end up getting town down. Our daughter in law asked what's the big deal with the Flintstones so I had to explain. We had no DVD's, no VHS, no Netflix, no internet, no smart phones, no Pixar, NO ANIMATION studios, no Facebook, No Instagram, no Kardashians to watch. We were the stone age for sure. Hanna-Barbera Productions, makers of the Flintstones, was one of the very first big animation studios and also produced Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo and The Smurfs. Yes there was Disney but they only produced big movies and not very often. So for my generation the Flintstones were a big deal. It was a pretty overcast day while we were there and we even got a few drops of rain, not the best weather for photography but comfortable for walking around. If you are a baby boomer and watched the Flintstones you should stop and see this before it is gone.
