We were in Laughlin Nevada and since we volunteer at the Route 66 Museum in Barstow I always like to visit places on Route 66. This little jaunt was to visit the Keepers of the Wild Nature Park. Their mission is a non profit organization dedicated to the protection of abused, neglected, abandoned and retired captive wildlife. To provide the best standard of care and help enforce the humane treatment of all animals. What animals are there can change as they get new ones. It is a nice pace to stop and see the animals. We have driven past this place many times on Route 66 but never had enough time to stop. In fact there is never enough time on Route 66 to stop at all the places I see that look interesting. |

On this day the mission was Keepers of the wild but first I noticed Giganticus Headicus seemed to have a fresh coat of paint so I had to stop. But there is now the Antares Visitor Center there, formerly Kozy Corner Trail Park and it opened in November of 2016. There are numerous pieces of art around to see and photograph. Next we stopped at the Hackberry General Store which was originally Bob Waldmire's International Bioregional Old Route 66 Visitors Center. Try to find somebody who even recalls that. <grin>. Then we stopped at the Grand Canyon Caverns to photograph some of the dinosaurs and the police car from the Radiator Springs Police Department. We ended up in Seligman to eat and of course at Westside Lilo's Cafe. They have the best food on Route 66 and they have fresh cut french fries. So this 90 mile drive turned into an all day affair and there were places I wanted to stop but there was not enough time. That's what happens on Route 66. |
