Utah on Route 6 is pretty sparse. In Green River there was some art work made in the Fibonacci Sequence and since math was important to me in school and in my career I simply had to see it. We also stopped in Helpers, the town is so named because they used to keep helper locomotives in town to help trains get through Soldier Summit pass. There was what looked like a good museum but it was not going to be open for 10 or so minutes so I drove Main St. Wow are they doing a great job bringing this old town back to life rehabbing buildings, restoring service stations and just fixing everything up. I started walking the town photographing it and couldn’t stop. |

They were working on an old building and making into a Harley dealer putting iron work on the front. A guy let us in and we were blown away how they were doing it kind of a Steam Punk kind of look. We stopped to talk to a guy working on one building and I was commenting on how great it looked. It turns out he used to live in Cleveland in Shaker Heights. He was an actor until Playhouse Square in Cleveland went downhill. Now he owns an entire block in Helper. We had lunch at a restaurant, Marsha’s Sammich and Bakery, and it was terrific. I had a garlic sausage sandwich with roast beef, onions and cheese on it. The French fries were also fresh cut. The sausage was very unique and wonderful. We spent the night in Delta Utah. We walked from our motel to dinner and like most meals this trip it was very good. Then we walked over to a movie theater to see mission impossible. Senior admission is $5 and a medium popcorn was only $4. Try to do that in the Los Angeles area. |
