While we were in Lafayette Louisiana we stopped at Martin Accordions. They put
on a little musical show for us so we could hear their accordion Cajun music
and they explained a lot about the Diatonic accordion to us. It is a family
run and owned business started by the older gentlemen playing the slide
guitar. |

The diatonic accordion only has one set of buttons and plays a different
sound if you push or pull the bellows. I talked with the person who runs the
wood shop. He is a brother but does not play the accordion. He does
beautiful work with the wood and the finishes he applies. He uses a lot of
curly maple and usually gets quarter sawn wood. This proved to be a most
enjoyable stop and at night we went to a Cajun restaurant that raises their
own crawfish and had Cajun music and dancing. |
