Flickr is now limiting the number of photos I can have so these will age out in a year or so.

We took this little jaunt because I wanted to see the condition of Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain, what was left of Christina Angelina's beautiful artwork on abandoned water treatment tanks and The East Jesus Art Gardens. In the picture to the left you can see just a hint of the black and white pictures Christina painted inside the tank. Most of her work has been totally obliterated by taggers. I am frustrated I did not get there sooner to see it.. but you can see the original at this link. We have gone to see Leonard Knight a number of times over the years before he passed away. He was such a sweet, gentle, god loving man. We would take him food that did not need refrigeration because he had no electricity. Salvation Mountain is showing what happens when the man who cared for it 24 x 7 365 dies. On some of the other structures there, the adobe is peeling off and in another 10 years or less will probably have to be torn down for safety reasons.

To get to East Jesus you have to drive through slab city, a not so pretty place and my wife never wanted to... But I talked her into going. The Art Garden in East Jesus bills itself as the only art museum in Imperial County. The picture in the lower right is the wicked witch of the west and Dorothy's house has fallen on her from the Wizard of OZ. Note the faded ruby slippers next to the legs.
