Our first time ever in Oatman was about 1995. Shops come and go and the owners come and go but we happened to be there about lunch and they were still doing their little gun fight show. Many of the shops sell the kitschy touristy stuff but there are always a couple of shops like the Classy Ass that sell more upscale items. Of course the wild burros are still there but they no longer sell carrots to feed them instead it is oat pellets. Apparently the burros get very aggressive for the sweetness of the carrots and it is not really good for them to have a diet of a lot of carrots. |

Some things in the area do change and the Cool Springs gas station is one of them while Ed's camp remains unchanged. This link will take you to a picture of Cool Springs before it was restored. We still enjoy the drive in and out of Oatman and the growth down in Bullhead city is incredible. Same for the Golden Valley area on the other side of the mountains. When in the area we typically go to the Kingman Turquoise mine. Back in the 90s and early 2000s we went because Karen wanted to purchase jewelry. Then it changed to beads when she was beading and now we go to buy rough bricks of composite materials that I turn into cabochons that I set in silver and Karen wire wraps. |
